Family history

John Ernest Goodacre was born in 1878 at Nottingham, he was the son of John William a carter and Elizabeth Goodacre, née Newberry and the brother of Flora, William James, Beatrice Alice, Mary, Bertha and Harry Goodacre (killed in action 4/11/1918) of 1 Turner Street Nottingham.

His father John William was born in 1857 at Nottingham, his mother Elizabeth Newberry was born in 1858 at Somerset, they were married in 1877 at Nottingham.

John Ernest married Flora(Florrie) Isaac born 21st April 1881 in 1902 at Nottingham, they had the following children, John William born 22nd February 1904, Sidney born 22nd Janaury 1907 and Doris born 23rd January 1914 they lived at 131 Alfred Street, Nottingham.

In 1911 they lived at 25 Westfield Lane Mansfield and later at 131 Alfred Street South Nottingham.

Military history

Prive John Ernest Goodacre enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 16th battalion Sherwoodd Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 20th Septemer 1917, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.

'GOODACRE. – In loving memory of Pte. H.Goodacre, killed in action November 4th, 1918; also Pte. E. Goodacre reported killed September 20th, 1917, both of Sherwood Foresters, youngest and eldest sons of Mr. and Mrs. J. Goodacre, 1 Turner-street. R.I.P. – Loving father, mother, brother, and ...sisters.'
