Family history

Herbert Freeman was born on 3rd April 1893 at Sheffield he was baptised on 26th April 1893 at St Marys Church, Shffield he was the son of Fred George Freeman a brick layer and Clara Hopkins of 77 Staveley Road, Sheffield.

Herbert Freeman married Leonie Cundy (born 182) they were married on 26th June 1915 at Nottingham, they lived at 31 Crown Street Blue Bell Hill Nottingham and later 3 Hovendon Street, Nottingham, they had a son Herbert Freeman born 1917, he died however in 1918.

Military history

Gunner Herbert Freeman enlisted on 7th September 1914 at Nottingham, giving his age as 21 yrs and 5 months his occupation was that of a shop assistant, he was posted to the 25th Reserve Battery Royal Field Artillery. He landed in France on 16th February 1916 and served unitl he was retunred to England on 5th July 1916 due to tuberculosis of the lung. On 18th August 1916 he was posted to the command depot, Royal Field Artillery.

On 14th December 1916 he was discharged from the Army being medically unfit for active service.

He died on 27th March 1919 and is buried at Nottingham General Cemetery
