George William Eyre was born in 1900 at Shardlow, he was the son of Walter Augustas a blacksmith and Florence Eyre née Staniland, and the brother of Ivy and Florence Eyre of Conway Street, Nottingham.

His father William Augustas was born in 1873 at Dudley, Staffordshire, his mother Florence Staniland was born in 1874 ast Park Gate, Yorkshire, they were married on 9th June 1894 at Emmanuel Church, Nottingham, they had 4 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 47 Conway Street Nottingham Walter Augustas 37 yrs is a blacksmith he is living with his wife Florence 37 yrs and their children, George William 10 yrs a scholar, Ivy 14 yrs an errand girl and Violet 5 yrs of age.

Military history

Private George William Eyre enlisted and served with the 2nd battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment he died on 9th August 1921 in the Military Hospital, Alexandria
he is buried at Alexandria (Chatby) Military And War Memorial Cemetery
