Family history

Albert Edward Edgley was born in 1893 at Nottingham, he was the son of John William a night porter and Selina Georgina Edgley née Bryan and the brother of Elizabeth Annie Edgley.

His father John William was born in 1865 at Leicester, his mother Selina Georgina Bryan was bon in 1863 at Easton, Leicestershire, they were married in 1887 their marriage was recorded in the Nottingham registration district, they had 3 children.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 53 Herbert Street St Ann's Nottingham John William 46 yrs is a night porter, he is living with his wife Selina Georgina 48 yrs and 2 of their children, Albert Edgley 18 yrs a domestic gardener and Elizabeth 18 yrs a lace machine curtain maker

Military history

Private Albert Edward Edgley enlisted on 20th November 1915, giving his address as 71 Midway Road, Swadlincote, his age was 22 yrs and 1 month and he was a number taker, he was posted to the reserves. He was mobilsed for war on 12th February 1916 at Derby and was posted to the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He embarked from Folkston on 26th Febraury 1917 landing at Boulogne the same day. He was killed in action on 26th September 1917 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial
