Family history

Louis Fletcher was born in 1877 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late John Fletcher born 1840 at Nottingham and Ellen Webb born 1840 and died 1903 aged 63 yrs.

He was the husband of Emma Woodhouse (born 24th September 1880) of 21 Virginia Street Bath Street Nottingham. He was the father of George born 3rd June 1900, Emma born 26th June 1902, Ellen born 27th June 1907, William Isaac born 13th September 1908 and Hilda born 7th November 1914, she died in 1916.

In 1911 census the family lived at 20 Pump Street Nottingham, Louis Fletcher 34 yrs is a lace machine driller, he is living with his wife Emma 31yrs a lace dresser and their children, George 11 yrs, Emma 9 yrs, Ellen 4 yrs and William Isaac 1year and 7 months of age.

Commencing 24th January 1916 his widow was awarded a pension of 25 shillings a week.

Military history

Private Louis Fletcher enlisted at Nottingham on 21st September 1914, giving hios age as 36 yrs and 215 days, he stated he had previously served witht the Sherwood Foresters Regiment.

He was posted to the Leicestershire Regiment. He embarked from Southampton on 18th March 1915 ladning the following day in France, he was killed in action on 15th May 1915 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial
