Family history

William Etches Cragg was born in 1897 at Nottingham, he was the son of Arthur a frame work knitter and Ada Cragg née Cave and the brother of Arthur Leonard and Frances Carrie Cragg.

His father Arthur was born in 1861 at Sneinton, his mother Ada Cave was born in 1861 at Sneinton they were married on 13th November 1886 at Sneinton, they had 3 children.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 10, Ashfield Road, Sneinton Dale, and later at 14, Lewis Street, Alfred Street Central, (both Nottingham). Arthur 50 rs is a frame work knitter he is living with his wife Ada 50 yrs and their children, Arthur Leonard 20 yrs a hosiery warehouseman, Frances Cave 17 yrs a railway clerk and William Etches 14 yrs a frame work knitter

Military history

Rifleman William Cragg enlisted in Shirehampton, Bristol, he initially served with the Army Service Corps, later transferring to the Royal Irish Rifles, he died of wounds in a German hospital on 31st March 1918 he is buried at Maubeuge-Centre Cemetery, Grave Reference: A 11
