Family history

Reginald John Dunn was born in 1884 at Chard, Somerset he was the son of John Henry Dunn a lace maker and Hester Mary Dunn née Roper.

His father John Henry was born in 1860 at Chard, Somerset, his mother Hester Mary Roper was born in 1861 at London, she died in 1913 52 yrs, they were married on 17th May 1880 at Tatworth Somerset, they went on to have 13 children, sadly 3 were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census his parents and sibling are living at 40 Osmaston Street, Sandiacre, John Henry 51 yrs is a lace maker, he is living with his wife Esther 49 yrs a lace mender and six of their children.

In the same 1911 census Reginald John has left the family home he was boarding at 14 Robin Hood Street St Ann's Nottingham he is shown as being 27 yrs and a compositor he is boarding with Mary Taylor a boarding house keeper.

He was the husband of Annie Wilds whom he married in 1912 at Nottingham. they lived at 1 Ratcliffe Terrace, Ratcliffe Street, Nottingham, she later lived at 34 Wilford Grove, Nottingham they had a son Reginald Crosby Dunn born 3rd February 1915.

Military history

Private Reginald John Dunn enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number 3179 with the Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment) he later served with the 7th Bn Shropshire Light Infantry and was killed in action on 1st October 1918, he is buried at Flesquieres Hill Cemetery, France
