Family history

William Thomas Dale, was known as 'Billy'. he was the son of William a railway labourer and Florence Dale of née Walker 8 Finedon Terrace, Seymour Street, Nottingham.

His father William was born in 1869 at Nottingham, his mother Florence Walker was born in 1878 at Nottingham, they were married on 27th December 1896 at St Mary's Church, Nottingham, they had 7 children, sadly three were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 1 Summit Place, Walker Street, Sneinton, Nottingham, William 42 yrs is a railway labourer he is living with his wife Florence 33 yrs and their children William 13 yrs an errand boy, Albert 10 yrs a scholar, Joseph 4 yrs and

Military history

Private William Thomas Dale enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number 203728 in the North Staffordshire Regiment, he later served with the South Staffordshire Regimnet, he was killed in actio on 30th November 1917 having no known grave and is commemorated on the Cambrai Memorial, Louverval

Nottingham Evening Post notice (abridged) 24 December 1917: 'Dale. Killed in action November 30th, Private WT Dale (Billy) South Staffordshires, in his 21st year, son of William and Florence Dale, 8 Finedon Terrace, Seymour Street.'
