Family history

Ernest Bailey was born on 27th February 1896 at Nottingham, he was baptised on 3rd August 1906 at St Ann's, he was the son of the late John a frame worker knitter and Emily Bailey née Tomlinson and the brother of Mabel Bailey of 5 Gedling Street Nottingham.

His father John was born in 1865 at Nottingham, he died in 1897 aged 32 yrs, his mother Emily Tomlinson was born in 1863 at Nottingham they were married on 4th October 1884 at Nottingham they went on to have 4 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 5 Gedling Street,Nottingham Emily 48 yrs is a widow, she is a green grocer she is living with her children,Mabel 19 yrs assiting in her mothers business and Ernest 15 yrs a painter for a designer.

Military history

Private Ernest Bailey enlisted at Nottingham he served with the 10th battalion Royal Fusiliers, he was killed in action on 20th November 1917 and is buried in the Klein-Vierstraat British Cemetery (grave ref I.G.14).
