Family history

William Buckley was born in 1895 at Quorn, he was the son of William Buckley a frame work knitter and the late Sarah Buckley née Young of 109 Pym Street, St Ann's, Nottingham.

His father William was born in 1870 at Kegworth, his mother Sarah Yopung was born in 1870 at Kegworth, they were married on 8th July 1888 at Kegworth they had 4 children,

In the 1911 census the family are living at 109 Pym Street Gordon Road St Ann's Nottingham, William 41 yrs is a frame work knitter, he is living with his son William 16 yrs a hosiers errand boy and his married daughter Rachel Straw (nee Buckley) 22 yrs a frame work knitter

Military history

Private William Buckley enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 2/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action, 26th September 1917, age 22, in the attack on the German positions near Wieltje, near Ypres, Belgium.

Commemorated : Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium. Panel 99 to 102 and 162 to 162A.
