Family history

William Brown was born in 1897 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late William a bricklayer and Margaret Brown néé Latimer of 19 Kent Street, Nottingham.

His father William was born in 1863 at Nottingham hedied in 1906 aged 43 yrs, his mother Margaret Latimer was born at Cavan, Ireland, they were married in 1895 at Nottingham, they had 7 children, sadly 1 was to die in infancy or early childhood.

He was the brother of Catherine, Annie, James, Anthony and Edward Brown.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 2 Brairley Yard, Nottingham, his widowed mother Margaret 46 yrs is a charwoman and head of the family , she is living with her children, Catherine 19 yrs a machinist, Annie 17 yrs a pattern girl, William 14 yrs an errand boy, James 13 yrs, Anthony 11 yrs and Edward 7 years of age.

Military history

Corporal William Brown enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number 68496 of the East Yorkshire Regiment. He was serving with the Yorkshire Regiment when serving in Russia, he was killed in action on 19th April 1919. He was buriied at Ust-Vaga Burial Ground Archangel Allied Cemetery
