Family history

Arthur Bernard Broadhead was born in 1889 at Nottingham he was the son of Alexis Anderson Broadhead otherwise known as Elijah a hat salesman and Mary Broadhead née Barnett and the brother of Mary Isabel, Harry, Doris, Marjorie and Dora Broadhead of 12 Great Freeman Street, Nottingham.

His father Alexis was born in 1861 at Nottingham, he died in 1916 aged 54 yrs, his mother Mary Barnett was born in 1865 at Nottingham, they were married in 1886 at Nottingham, they went on to hae 7 children.

In the 1911 census the family lived at they lived at 2 Greyfriar Place Grefriar Gate, Nottingham, his mother is shown as head of the family Mary Broadhead 46 yrs married, a lace clipper she is living with her children Arthur Bernard 21 yrs a railway carter, Mary Isabel 18 yrs, a waitress at Lyons on Long Row, Harry 15 yrs an errand boy, Doris 14 yrs an assistant for a surgical instrument maker, Marjories 11 yrs a scholar and Doris 6 yrs of age.
His father Elijah is not at the home of the night of the 1911 census.

Military history

Private Arthur Bernard Broadhead served at Bernard Broadhead he enlisted at Nottingham and was killed in action, 15th October 1916, age 27, in the attack near Le Transloy, France during the Battle of the Somme.

Commemorated : Thiepval Memorial, France. Pier and Face 10 C 10 D and 11 A.
