Family history

Edward William Brammall was born on 21st March 1898 at Alltami, Flintshire, he was the son of Charles a railway linesman and Susan Brammall née Robins of 73 Wellington Street Nottingham.

His father Charles was born in 1877 at Aldford, Cheshire, his mother Suan Robins was born in 1879 at Alltami, Flintshire, they were married in 1896 at Chester, they went on to have 5 children, sadly 2 were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 31 Railway Cottages, Lowgates, Staveley, Charles Brammall was 34 yrs of age he is an assistant railway linesman he is living with his wife Suan 32 yrs and their children Edward 13 yrs is a scholar, Margaret 6 yrs and Elsie 2 years of age.

Military history

Private Edward William Brammall enlisted on 8th May 1916 at Sheffield, giving his address as 66 Mount Street, Sheffield, he was 18 yrs of age and an assistant wagon repaier. He was posted to the reserves and mobilised for war on 5th March 1917 and posted to the York and Lancashire Regiment. He landed in France on 29th June 1917 and was killed in action on 22nd August 1917. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tytne Cot Memorial
