George Willaim Berry was baptised on 13th September 1893 at St Matthias Church, Sneinton, he was the son of William a needle maker and Ann Berry née Flinders and the brother of Thomas, Florence. Violet and Hannah Berry.
His father William was born in 1863 at Nottingham, his mother Ann Flinders was born 1863 at Nottingham, they were married on 8th April 1887 at St Matthias Church, Sneinton, they went on to have 7 children sadly 2 died in infancy or early childhood.
In the 1911 census the family lived at 27 Moodey Street and later at 28 Owen Street Gordon Road (both Nottingham) William 48 yrs a needle maker is living with his wife Ann 48 yrs and their children, Thomas 20 yrs a lace threader, George 17 yrs a laceworker, Florence 14 yrs a lace mender and Violet 11 yrs a scholar also living with them is Hannah Flinders 87 yrs a widow.
Private George William Berry enlisted at Nottingham he served with the 12th battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, he was killed in action on 17th September 1916 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
