Family history

Frank Leslie Belshaw was born in 1897 at Nottingham, he was the son of William an elastic weaver and Mary Jane Belshaw née Dann of Eastville Street, Nottingham.

His father William was born in 1865 at Nottingham his mother Mary Jane Dann wasalso born in 1865 at Nottingham, they were married on 7th August 1890 at St Ann's, Nottingham, they had a further childre Nellie born 1892 at Nottingham.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 12 Eastville Street Nottingham William 46 yrs is an elastic weaver he is living with his wife Mary Jane 46 yrs and their children Nellie 19 yrs no occupation listed and Frank 14 yrs an office boy.

Military history

Frank Leslie Belshaw joined the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment) in France on 18 March 1915 as part of a draft of 2 officers and 116 other ranks who arrived as replacements for losses at Neuve Chapelle. Two months after arriving in France, Frank died of wounds in Cambridge Hospital, England. He is buried in Nottingham Church Cemetery, grave - St Paul's 9192.

Nottingham Evening Post notice (abridged) 8 May 1915: 'Belshaw. Died of wounds at Cambridge Hospital, May 17th, Private Frank Leslie Belshaw, 1st Sherwood Foresters, son of William and Mary Belshaw, 12 Eastville Street, 19 years.'
