Harold William Beecroft was born on 5th April 1890 at Nottingham, he was baptised on 8th March 1891 at St Ann's, Nottingham, he was the son of the late William a tailor and Maria Beecroft née Matlock of Sneinton, Nottingham.
His father William was born in 1859 at Nottingham he died in 1907 aged 48 yrs, his mother Maria Matlock was born in .1860 at Liverpool, they were married on 25th December 1880 at St Mary's Church, Nottingham, they went on to have 6 children.
In the 1901 census the family were living at 16 Woolmer Road, Nottingham.
He was the husband of Ellen Holbrook (born 24th October 1892 ) whom he married in 1916 at Nottingham of 74 Abbotsford Road Nottingham.
Commecing 3rd March 1919 his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week she was living at 15 Wordsworth Road, Radford Boulevard, Nottingham.
Private Harold William Beecroft enlisted on 7th November 1914 at Nottingham, giving his age 5as 24 yrs and 7 months and his address as 2 Belvoir Hill, Sneinton, he was posted to the Royal Army Medical Corps and embodied for war. He was posted as a 2nd class nursing orderley on 30th September 1916. He embarked from Southampton on 28th April 1917 and landed the following day at Le Harve, he was posted to the 2nd Field Ambulance. He was killed in action on 28th August 1918 and is buried at Martinpuich British Cemetery.
