George Henry Beardall was born in Codnor Park, Derbyshire, he was baptised on 13th November 1890 at Ironville, he was the son of George a mineral water and pickle manufacturer and Sarah Elizabeth Beardall née Grainger of 94 Blue Bell Hill Road, Nottingham.
His father George was born in 1856 at Codnor Park, his mother Sarah Elizabeth Grainger was born in 1859 at Basford, they were married on 24th September 1883 at St Leodegarius Church, Basford, they went on to have 8 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood.
In the 1911 census the family are living at 127 Blue Bell Hill Road, Nottingham, his father George 54 yrs is mineral water and pickle manufacturer, he is living with his children, Samuel Edward 25 yrs a mineral water manufacturer, Hannah Lizzie 23 yrs a restaurant waitress, Maud, 21 yrs a dress maker, George Henry 20 yrs a mineral water manufacturer , Maggie 16 yrs a miliner and Walter 10yrs a scholar.
In the same 1911 census his mother is living at Mill Lane Codnor, she is shown as Elizabeth Beardall 52 yrs she is living with her brother Walter 64 yrs a carter.
Pte. Beardall joined the 1/1st Bn Sussex Yeomanry and after training at Canterbury, Kent the yeomanry moved to Liverpool and embarked on the 'Olympic' on 25/09/1915. They arrived at Lemnos on 01/10/1915 and on board S.S. 'Santa' sailed to Cape Helles, arriving on 07/10/1915. They spent the whole of November in the line. On 09/12/1915 the yeomanry moved forward to the Zig Zag where there was heavy shelling. Pte, Beardall was hit by shrapnel and died of his wounds. He was buried at Lancashire Landing Cemetery. (J. 7.)
