George Worthington was born in 1881 at Nottingham, he was the son of Charles a plate layer and Eliza Worthington née Hickling of 28, Dawson St., Carlton Rd., Nottingham.
His father Charles was born in 1851 at Nottingham hsi mother Eliza Hickling was born in 1854 at Basford, she died in 1917 aged 63 yrs, they were married on 13th May 1871 at St Mary's Church, Nottingham, they went on to have 8 children, sadly 3 were to die in infancy or early childhood.
In the 1911 census the family were living at 28 Dawson Street, Carlton Road, Nottingham, Charles 60 yrs is a plate layer for the Midland Railway he is living with his wife Eliza 59 yrs and their children, Tom 33 yrs a plate layer for the Midland Railway, Charles 24 yrs a brickmaker, Arthur 21 yrs a cotton spinner, Lucy 17 yrs working in tailoring, Harold 15 yrs a printer.
In the same 1911 census we find that Goerge has left the family home he is living at 1 Cottage Road, Moody Street, Nottingham he is 29 yrs and single and a brick maker.
Private George Worthington, enlisted in Nottingham and served with the 15th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment, He was killed in action on 28th March 1918. He is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial.
