Family history

George William Taylor was born on 3rd December 1884 at Nottingham, he was baptised on 9th November 1886 at St Bartholomews Church, Nottingham, he was the son of George a bricklayer and Mary Taylor née Notman and the brother of Alice, Albert, Arthur, Ethel, Nellie Eliza, May and Annie Taylor.

His father George was born in 1858 at Normanton on Soar, his mother Mary Notman was born in 1861 at Nottingha, they were married on 26th July 1884 at St Ann's, nottingham, they had 9 children 1 of whom died in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 11 Roberts Street Windmill Lane Sneinton Nottingham. George 53 yrs is a bricklayer he is living with his wife Mary 50 yrs and their 8 children including William George 26 yrs a bricklayer.

He was the husband of Gertrude Mary Harrison born 1882 they were married on 3rd August 1912 at St Stephens Church, Sneinton. they lived at 49 Ena Avenue Sneinton Dale Nottingham.Commencing 29th August 1919 his widow was awarded a pension of 26 shillings and 8 pence a week.

Military history

Sapper George William Taylor enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 202nd Field Company, Royal Engineers, he was killed in action on 19th April 1918 he is buried at Reninghelst New Military Cemetery
