Francis Tatton was born in 1876 at Nottingham, he was the son of Francis a brick maker and Harriet Tatton née Hardy of 35 St Cuthberts Road, Carlton Road, Nottingham.
His father was born in 1852 at Wood, Shipley, his mother Harriett Hardy was born in 1853 at Wood Shipley, they were married on 3rd November 1872 at St Matthias Church, Sneinton, they went on to have 6 children.
Francis Tatton was the husband of Alice Greenfield (born 15th January 1875 ) they were married on 24th December 1903 at St Matthias Church, Sneinton, they had 2 children, Dorothy Edna Alice born 16th September 1907 and Eric Frank born 26th May 1913.
In the 1911 census the family ived at 35 St Cuthbert's Road Carlton Road Nottingham Francis 35 yrs is an insurance agent, his lisiving with his wife Alice 36 yrs and their daughter Dorothy Edna 3 years of age.
Commencing 29th July 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 25 shillings and 5 pence a week, at this date she was living at 11 Spalding Road, Carlton Road, Nottingham.
Driver Francis Tatton enlisted at Nottingham, he served with 'D' Bty 189th Bde, Royal Field Artillery, he was killed in action on 5th January 1918 and is buried Roisel Communal Cemetery Extension
Obituary published in the 'Nottingham Evening Post, dated 2nd February 1918 :-
“TATTON. - Killed in action, January 5th, Signaller Frank Tatton, R.F.A., aged 41, beloved brother of Cissie and Fred (Birmingham). Loved by all who knew him.”
Obituaries published in the Nottingham Evening Post dated 4th January 1919 :-
“TATTON. - In ever-loving memory of our dearest brother, Sig. Frank Tatton, killed in France January 5th, 1918. Sleep on, dear brother, in far off grave, a grave we may not see, but while our lives and memories last, we will ever think of thee. Mother and son reunited. - From his loving dad, Eliza, Ted, Lily, Jim and children.
“TATTON. - In loving memory of my dear brother, killed in France January 5th. Never forgotten. - Evelyn and Bert.
“TATTON. - In ever-loving memory of my dearest husband, who died January 5th, 1918. A sacrifice. - Wife and children, Doris and Eric.”
