George Henry Stapleton was born in 1887 at Nottingham, he was the son of Frank a lace warehouse man and Eveline Stapleton née Dunstan of 29 St Matthias Road, St Ann's, Nottingham.
His father Frank was born in 1867 at Nottingham, his mother Eveine Dunstan was born in 1868 at Nottingham they were married on 2nd April 1897 at St Ann's Church, Nottingham, they had 5 children sadly two died in infancy or early childhood.
In the 1911 census the family were livig at 29 St Matthias Road, St Ann's, Nottingham, Frank 44 yrs is a lace warehouseman he is living with his wife Eveline 43 yrs and their children, Frank 18 yrs a printer and Lily 19 ys no occupation listed.
In the same 1911 census George Henry has joined the Army , he is in barracks in Hong Kong with his battalion 1st Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infnatry, he is 21 yrs of age.
Private George Henry Stapleton, enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1st battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, he died of wounds in Boulogne military hospital on 30th April 1915 and is buried in Boulogne Eastern Cemetery (grave ref. Vlll.A.38).
Nottingham Post notice (abridged), 4 May 1915: ‘Stapleton. Died of wounds, Boulogne, April 30th, Private GH Stapleton, 1st KOYLI, son of Frank and Eveline Stapleton, 29 St Matthias Road.’
