Patrick Spellman was born in 1881 at Nottingham, he was the son of Thomas a brick layer and Winifred Spellman née Harrington of 3 Tadema Street, Nottingham who were from Ireland and the brother of Kate, Winnie and Annie Spellman of 3 Taema Street, Nottingham (Evening Post November 30, 1916)
His father Thomas was born in 1843 at Ireland, his mother Winifred Harrington was born in 1846 she was also born in Ireland, they were married in 1868 at Nottingham, they went on to have 13 children, sadly 9 were to die in infancy or early childhood.
In the 1911 census the family at 5 Abinger Street Southwell Road Nottingham Thomas 68 yrs is a brick layer, he is living with hisw wife Winifred 65 yrs and their children, Patrick 30 yrs a plasterers labourer, Kate 26 yrs a lace dresser, Winny 22 yrs a lace dresser and Annie 19 yrs a lace dresser.
Private Patrick Spellman enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 2nd battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 16th September 1916 aged 36 yrs, he is buried at Serre Road Cemetery No.2, France. Plot 33. Row H. Grave 12.
