Family history

John Smith was born on 31st March 1892 at Nottingham, he was baptised on 13th August 1893 at St Marys, Nottingham, he was the son of John a jacquard maker and Millicent Smith née Collington and the brother of Clarice, Walter and Bernard Smith of 12 Ladysmith Road, Nottingham.

His father John was born in 1870 at Nottingham, his mother Milicent Collington was born in 1871 at Nottingham, they were married in 1892 at Nottingham, they had 5 children, sadly 1 was to die in infancy or erly childhood.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 30 Kingsley Road Sneinton Nottingham John 41 yrs is a jacquard maker, he is living with his wife Millicent 40 yrs and their children, John 19 yrs a jacquard maker, Clarice 13 yrs a scholar, Walter 9 yrs of age and Bernard Smith 5 yrs old.

Military history

Private John Smith enlisted at Nottingham, he intially served wit the service number 3148 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was serving with the 10th battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment, when he was killed in action on 19th June 1917, he is buried at Oosttaverne Wood Cemetery
