Oliver Slight was born in 1876 at Nottingham he was the son of George Frederick Slight a builder and Frances Caroline Slight née Smith of Nottingham.
His father George Frederick was born in 1838 at Sneinton, his mother Frances Caroline Smith was born in 1843 at Nottingham, she died in 1912 aged 69 yrs, they were married on 27th July 1870 at St John's Church, Manchester, they went on to have 6 children,
He was the husband of Margaret Louisa Slight (born 9th February 1876) they were married on 12th October 1898 at the Weslyan Methodist church, Bridlington. they lived at 128 St Pauls Street, Hull,
In the 1911 census they lived at 18 Mafeking Street Sneinton Nottingham Oliver 33 yrs is a capsule maker, he is living with his wife Margaret Louisa 33 yrs
Commencing 28th Januay 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shilling and 9 pence a week, which on 9th October 1918 was raised to 19 shiilings and 4 pence a week.
Private Oliver Slight attested on 10th December 1915, at Hull giving his age as 39 yrs and 7 months his address was 128 St Pauls Strret, Hull, he was a beeroff keeper and boot repairer, he was posted to the reserves. He was mobilised for war on 22nd June 1916 and posted to the 8th battalion East Yorkshire Regiment, he landed in France on 24th November 1916, he was reported wounded and missing on 3rd May 1917, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
