Family history

James George Raffell was born in 1900 at at Beckenham, Kent he was the son of John a coal carter and Harriet Raffell née White and the brother of William John, Louisa Alice, Violet Alexandra, Henry Charles, Dorothy and Alfred Raffell. of 10 Hartwell Terrace Hartwell Street St Ann's Nottingham.

His father John William was born in 1865 at Reading his mother Lydia Harriett White was born in 1865 at Bromley, Kent, they wee married in 1888 at Bromley, they went on to have 14 children, sadly 6 were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 2 Great Eastern Street Nottingham John William 46 yrs a coal carter, he is living with hs wife 46 yrs and their children, William John 20 yrs a carter, Louisa Alice 13 yrs of agea scholar, James George 12 yrs a sholar, Violet Alexander 10 yrs Henry Charles 7 yrs Dorothy 5 yrs and Alfred 9 months old.

Military history

Boy James George Raffell enlisted at Bangor, he served with Lancashire Fusiliers at their depot, he died on 31st July 1916, aged 16yrs at the Bury Military Hospital. he is buried at Bury Cemetery Redvales
