Family history

Ben Perotti was born in 1887 at Nottingham, he was the son of James a corporation navvy and Elizabeth Perotti née Moorhouse and the brother of James and Charles Henry Perotti.

His father James wasborn in 1860 at Nottingham, he died in 1908 at Nottingham aged 48 yrs, his mother Elizabeth Moorhouse was born in 1859 at Netherthong they were married in 1882 at Huddersfiled, they went on to have 6 children, 3 sadly died in infancy or early childhood.

In 1901 they lived at 2 New Market Road and in 1911 at 3 Finch Street (both Nottingham) Elizabeth a widow is 53 yrs she is living withher sons Ben 24 yrs a plain net threader, James 18 yrs a plain net threader and Charles Henry 15 yrs a van lad with Great Northern Railway.

Elizabeth later moved to Green’s End Meltham Huddersfield.

Military history

Ben Perotti enlisted at Nottingham , he served with the 9th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, served on Gallipoli and in Egypt. The battalion moved to France in July 1916 and spent time on the Arras front before preparing for the Somme. On 26th September 1916 the battalion took part in the Battle of Thiepval and took all of its objectives but at high cost. Ben was one of the men killed and has no known grave. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
