Family history

Harold Parker was baptised on 6th January 1895 at St Stephens Church, Sneinton, he was the son of Albert a railway servant and Annie Elizabeth Parker née Smith and the brother of Albert, George Henry and Frank Parker.

His father Albert was born in 1867 at Nottingham, his mother Annie Elizabeth Smith was born in 1869 at Nottingham, they were married on 1st September 1892 at St Laurence Church, Long Eaton, they went on to have 5 children, sadly 1 was to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 4a Bentinck Street, Sneinton, Nottingham. Albert 44 yrs is a railway servant, he is living with his wfie Annie Elizabeth 42 yrs and their children Harold 16 yrs a millinery salesman, Albert 13 yrs a scholar, George 12 yrs and Frank Henry 9 years of age.

Military history

Private Harold Parker enlisted on 14th November 1914, giving his age as 19 yrs and 10 months, his address was 53 Lees Hill Street, Sneinton, Nottingham,he was a millinery salesman he was posted to the Sherwood Foresters Rregiment.

Transferred to the Machine Gun Corps on 14th August 1916 he embarked from Folkstone on 13th September 1916 landing the same day at Boulogne. He served in France until 4th February 1917 when he was returned to England suffering from Diabetes. He appeared before a medical board on 27th September 1917 was it was reported he was no longer fit for active service due to his diabetes. He was discharged from the Army on 18th October 1917 he was 22 yrs of age his discharge address was 91 York Street, Westminster Street, Nottingham.

He died on 28th December 1919 he is buried at Nottingham Church Cemetery.
