Family history

William James Padgett was born in 1883 at Nottingham, he was the son of William a baker ans Emma Padgett née Alberg , he was the brother of Florence Emma and Harold Padgett. they lived at 47 Randolph Street Carlton Road Nottingham.

His father William was born 1861 at Newark his mother Emma Alberg was born in 1861 at Kirklington, they were married on 26th December 1881 at St Switerns Church, Kirklington, they went on to have 7 children, sadly two were to die in infnacy and early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 4 Randolph Street, Nottingham, William 50 yrs is a baker he is living with his wife Emma 50 yrs and their children, William 26 yrs a lace dresser, Florence Emma 18 yrs a blouse folder and Harold 6 yrs of age, also living with them is William 4 yrs a grandson.

He married Mabel Birch on 24th April 1905 at St Matthias Church, Sneinton, Nottingham

Military history

Private William James Padgett enlisted at Nottingham he served with the 4th battalion Royal Fusiliers, he was killed in action on 3rd May 1917, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.

His pension record shows he was seperated from his wife, his son William born 31st October 1906 and the childs guardian is Mrs W Padgett (his mother) of 47 Randolph Sreet, Sneinton, Nottingham, she was awarded a pension of 7 shillings a week his wife was deemed unworthy
