Family history

Leonard Morris was born in 1895 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Harry a general labourer and Louisa Morris née Timson and the brother of Louisa, Elizabeth, Frank and Ada Morris of 1 Woodbine Terrace, Gordon Road, St Ann's, Nottingha.

His father Harry was born in 1865 at Nottingham, his mother Louisa Timson was born in 1869 at Nottingham, they were married in 1891 at Nottingham, they went onto have 7 children, sadly two died in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 1 Harold Hill Harold Street Sneinton, Nottingham, Harry 46 yrs is a general labourer he is living with his wife Louisa 42 yrs and their children, Louisa 19 yrs a cigar maker, Leonard 16 yrs a printers boy, Elizabeth 12 yrs a scholar, Frank 5 yrs of age and Ada 2 years old.

Military history

Private Leonard Morris enlisted on 21st February 1916 at Nottingham giving his address as 1 Ebenezer Square, Carlton Road, Nottingham, he gave his age as 21 yrs and 17 days he was a printers hand his next of kin was his mother Louisa of the same address, he was posted to the reserves.

Mobilised for war on 23rd March 1916 he reported to the Derby Depot on 24th March 1916 and was posted to the Northumberland Fusilier. He embarked from Folkstone on 7th July 1916 and landed the same day at Boulogne, he was transferred to the York and Lancaster regiment on 9th September 1916. He died of shell wounds on 16th February 1917 he is buried at Warlincourt Halte British Cemetery Saulty
