Thomas Millington was born on 28th November 1886 at Nottingham, he was the son of John Millington Calladine a gas works stove cleaner and Maria Millington née Taylor.
His father John wa born in 1853 at Alfreton, his mother Maria Taylor was born in 1859 at Farnham, Surrey, they were married on22nd April 1878 at St Ann's Church, Nottingham, they went on to have 10 children sadly 1 was to die in infancy or early childhood.
In the 1911 census the family are living at 116 St Stephens Road, Sneinton, John is gas works stove cleaner he is living with his wife Msria 51 yrs and their children Thomas 24 yrs a great northern railway goods porter, Leonard 20 yrs a bottle washer, Harold 16 yrs a tailors erand boy, Mary 13 yrs and Mabel 11 yrs of age.
Thomas was married to Mary Ann (Dollie) Ingham (born 18th June 1889) they were married on 17th June 1911 at St Stephens Church, Sneinton, Nottingham, they lived at 7 Mafeking Street, Colwick Road.
Commencing 23rd Aprl 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week.
Private Thomas Millington enlisted on 2nd June 1912 at Nottingham. he served with the 16th battalion Sherwood Forestes Regiment, he went to France 14th December 1915 and Died of wounds 8th October 1916, aged 29, received in the attack on the Schwaben Redount, France, during the Battle of the Somme. Buried/Commemorated : Blighty Valley Cemetery, Authuille Wood, France. Plot 1. Row F. Grave 18.
Nottingham Evening Post notice (abridged), 26 October 1916: 'Millington. Died of wounds October 8th 1916, Private Thomas Millington, Sherwood Foresters, of 1 Mafeking Street, Colwick Road, age 29. Wife Mary (Dollie), brothers Harold, Len and Alf.'
