Samuel Mark Millington was born in 1894 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late David Millington a cyle maker turner and the late Caroline Owen, of Nottingham.
His father David was born in 1856 at Sneinton, he died in 1896 aged 40 yrs, his mother Caroline Owen was born in 1861 at Nottingham she died in 1905 aged 44 yrs they were married on 6th March 1884 at St Anns, Nottingham, his mother was a widow (Caroline Baxter) they went on to have 7 children.
In the 1911 census Samuel and his siblings are living at 25 Westwood Road, Sneinton, Samuel Mark 17 yrs is a grocer he is living with hs brothers David William 25 yrs a soldier, Alfred Henry 23 yrs a tripe dresser, and his sisters Ruth Emily 21 yrs a lace hand and Alice 15 yrs a lace hand.
Samuel married Catherine Betsy Mary Walker (born 5th September 1889) on 17th August 1915 at Nottingham, they lived at 21, Baden Powell Rd., Sneinton, Nottingham. and had a daughter Gladys Beatrice born 17th September 1918.
Commencing 12th May 1919 his widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 5 pence a week.
Driver Samuel Mark Millington enlisted at Nottingham on 14th January 1915 giving his address as 84 Lees Hill Street, Nottingham his age as 21 yrs and 5 months and his occupation as a town carter, his next of kin was his brother Sgt William Millington of the 2nd battalio Sherwood Foreses Regiment, on 18th January 1915 he arrived at the Royal Field Artillery Depot at Glasgow, he served with the 33rd Division Ammunition Column R.F.A, he died of gun shot wounds and gangrene on 1st November 1918 and is buried at Mont Huon Military Cemetery Le Treport
