George Cooper Martin was born in 1897 at Nottingham he was the son of Marshall George a master plumber and Elizabeth Martin née Cooper of 64 Carlton Road Nottingham.
His father Marshall George was born in 1871 at Nottingham, his mother Elizabeth Cooper was born in 1873 at Mansfield, they were married on 19th September 1896 at St Patricks Roman Catholic church, Nottingham, they went on to have 7 children, sadly 1 was to die in infancy or early childhood.
In the 1911 census the family are living at 27 Alfred Street, Nottingham, (Marshall) George 40 yrs a master plumber is living with his wife Elizabeth 38 yrs and their children, George Cooper 14 yrs, Winifred Mary 13 yrs, Edward Joseph 10 yrs, Marjorie 6 yrs, Thomas Phillip 3 yrs and Kathleen 2 years of age.
Private George Martin enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1/7th West Riding Regiment, he was killed in action on 29th April 1918, he is buried at Perth Cemetery (China Wall) Belgium
