Family history

Thomas Maltby was born in 1883 at Nottingham, he was the son of James a lace maker and Charlotte Ann Maltby née Marshall of 64Norland Road, St Ann's, Nottingham. he was the brother of Louisa and James Maltby.

His father James was born in 1848 at Chesterfield, his mother Charlotte Ann Marshall was born in 1855 at Derby they were married on 29th November 1875 at St Joh's Church, Nottingham, they had 10 children sadly 4 were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 cenus the family lived at 23 Woburn Street Sneinton James 63 yrs is a lace maker he is living with his wife Charlotte 56 yrs and their children, Louisa 16 yrs a lace mender, Thomas 27 yrs a labourer and James 31 yrs a french polisher.

Military history

Private Thomas Maltby enlisted at Nottingham on 11th December 1914, giving his address as 4 Jackson Terrace, Simkin Street, Nottingham, his age was 30 yrs and 10 months he was a factory hand his next of kin was his father James of the same address. He was posted to the Sherwood Foresters Regiment and landed in France on 11th August 1915, he was posted to cass Z army reserves on 10th March 1919. He died on 19th November 1919 of pneumonia. and is buried at the Nottingham General Cemetery
