Ernest Forbes was born in 1896 at Nottingham, He was the son of William a plasterers labourer and Emma Forbes née James and the brother of Edward and Gladys Forbes. at 1 Bay Terrace Clarence Street.
His father William was born in 1849 at Nottingham, his mother Emma James was born in 1855 at Nottingham, they were married on 26th April 1873 at St Marys Church, Nottingham they went on to have 13 children, sadly 9 died in infancy or early childhood.
They lived at 19 Clarence Street St Ann's Nottingham in 1911 William Forbes is 62 yrs a plasterers labourer he is living with his wife Emma 56 yrs and their children, William 19 yrs a threader, Edward 17 yrs out of work, Ernest 15 yrs an errand boy and Gladys 13 yrs a scholar.
Private Ernest Forbes, enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1/1st battalion Worcestershire Yeomanry, he died in Alexandria, on 4th June 1918 of inflamation of the brain, he is buried in Deir El Belah War Cemetery, Egypt.
In memoriam published 4th June 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :-
“FORBES. – In ever-loving memory of our dear son and brother, who died on June 4th, 1918, Alexander Hospital, Egypt. With aching hearts we shook his hand, tears glistened in our eyes, we wished him luck, but never thought it was his last good-bye. – From his sorrowing mother, father, sisters, Ada, Emma, Violet, Kate, Gladys, and brothers Edward, Bill (with the colours).”
