William Dunn was born in 1898 at Nottingham, he was the son of William a general labourer and Jane Ann Dunn née Carter and the brother of Emma, Mary Jane, Eva Frances, Annie Elizabeth, John Edwin and Alfred James Dunn.
His father William was born in 1867 at Rotherham, Yorkshire, his mother Jane Ann Carter was born in 1864 at Darlington, they were married on 31st May 1887 at St Pauls, Thornaby, Yorkshire, they had 9 children sadly 2 were to die in infancy or early childhood.
In the 1911 census the family lived at 19 Royal Oak Hill Nottingham William 44 yrs is a general labourer, he is iving with his wife and their seven children including William 13 yrs an errand boy.
William and Jane later lived at 1 Cropwell Terrace Hawksley Road Hyson Green Nottingham.
Corporal William Dunn enlisted and served with the 6th Light Armoured Motor Battery, Machine Gun Corps.
William died just after the war while in Basra, he was drowned while swimming on 31st July 1920, his body was never recovered. His name is commemorated on the Basra Memorial.
