John Blockley was born in 1883 at Nottingham, he was the son ofthe late William a chimney sweep and Annie Maria Blockley née Ward of 5 Platoft Street, Nottingham.
His father William was born in 1851 at Nottingham he died in 1913 at Nottingham he was aged 62 yrs, his mother Annie Maria Ward was born in 1853 at Sutton in Ashfield, they were married on 3rd October 1870 at St Marys Church, Nottingham, they went on to have 8 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood.
John was the husband of Elizabeth Ann Taylor (born 7th October 1884 ) whom he married in 1902 at Nottingham, they had children, John, Annie, Ernest, Willie, Beatrice and Elizabeth
In the 1911 census the family lived t 2 Lowdham Street Nottingham. John 28 yrs is a chImney sweep he is living with his wife Elizabeth 28 yrs and their children, John 9 yrs, Annie 7 yrs, Ernest 6 yrs, William 3 yrs, Beatrice 2 years and Elizabeth 3 months of age.
Commencing 12th November 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 36 shillings and 3 pence a week.
The family lived at 43 Alfred Street South, Nottingham
Private John Blockley, enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 11th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment. He was killed in action on 28th April 1917 and is buried in Railway Dugouts Burial Ground (Transport Farm).
