John Henry Anderson was born in 1898 at Nottingham, he was the son of Henry a labourer and Mary Ann Anderson née Woodward and the brother of Florence, Henry, Walter, Sarah and Alice Anderson.

His father Henry was born in 1849 at Tweksbury, Gloucestershire, his mother Mary Ann Woodward was born in 1856 also at Tweksbury, they were married in 1876, ther marriage was recorded in the Wolverhampton registration district, they went on to have 12 children, sadly 4 were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 8 Gerald Avenue Leicester Street Nottingham, Henry 62 yrs is a labourer, he is living wth his wife Mary 55 yrs and their children, Florence 19 yrs a frilling lace hand, Henry 17 yrs a labourer, John 12 yrs a scholar

Private John Henry Anderson served with the Royal Defence Corps, he died on 16th December 1917 at the General Hospital, Nottingham.
