Family history

Thomas Herbert was born in 1894 at Nottingham and was the son of Samuel a tailor and Mary Elizabeth Maltby née Alvey of 658 Mansfield Road Sherwood Nottingham.

His father Samuel was born in 1862 at Mansfield and his mother Mary Elizabeth Alvey was born in 1861 in Nottingham, they were married in 1884 at Nottingham and went on to have the following children, Eveline Kate b1890, Sidney Harold b1893, Thomas Herbert b1894, Winifred Elsie b1899 and Lois Ada b1900 all were born in Nottingham

In the 1911 census the family are living at 14 Church Drive, Carrington, Samuel Maltby 50 yrs is a tailor, he is living with his wife Mary Elizabeth 51 yrs and their 4 children including Thomas Harold 16 yrs a millinary warehouseman

The family also lived at 2 Percival Road and 20 Hayden Road, Sherwood.

Military history

Sergeant Thomas Herbert Maltby enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the "D" Company 11th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action on 5th October 1918 and is buried at Prospect Hill Cemetery grave reference 3.B.19
