Family history

William Arthur Howlett was born in 1894 at Nottingham, he was the son of William Henry a builders labourer and Mary Howlett née Mcree and the brother of Lily Emma, Kate and Florence Howlett.of Kingston Street, Sneinton, Nottingham.

His father William Henry was born in 1873 Winkbank, Yorkshire, his mother Mary Mcree was born in 1875 at Nottingham, they were married on 20th January 1894 at Nottingham, they went on to have 7 chidren, sadly three were to die in infancy or ealy childhood.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 37 Kingston Street Sneinton Nottingham William Henry 38 yrs is a builders labourer, he is living with his wife Mary 36 yrs and their children William Arthur 17 yrs a printers machinist, Lily Emma 15 yrs a lace finisher, Kate 14 yrs an errand
girl in a lace manufactures and Florence 10 yrs a scholar.

Military history

Private William Arthur Howlett enlisted at Nottingham he served with 'D' Company 10th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He went to France 14th July 1915 and died of wounds, 30th September 1915, age 21. He has no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium. Panel 39 and 41.
