Family history

Bertram Anderson was born in 1885 at Nottingham, he was baptised on 24th February 1886 at St Marks Church, Notingham, he was the son of Samuel a lamp lighter and Ann Anderson née Upton and the brother of Ellen, Walter, Samuel, Ann and Charles Anderson.,they lived at 81 Carlton Road Nottingham.

His father Samuel was born in 1855 at Nottingham, his mother Ann Upton was born in 1862 at Loughborough, they were married in 1884 at Nottingham, they went on to have 7 children.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 81 Carlton Road, Nottingham, Samuel 56 yrs is a lamp lighter, he is living with his wife Ann 49 yrs and their children, Bertram 26 yrs a butcher, Ellen 20 yrs a lace pattern girl, Walter 17 yrs a porter, Samuel 14 yrs a butcher, Ann 12 yrs and Charles 9 yrs old.

He was the husband of Florence Baker (born 2nd July 1882 ) they were married on 7th September 1914 at St Marys Church, Nottingham, they lived at 81 Carlton Road, Nottingham and later lived at 234 Windmill Lane Nottingham.

Commencing 24th March 1919 his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week.

Military history

Private Bertram Anderson enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number 273920 in th Army Service Corps, later transferring to the 13th battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers, he was killed in action on 27th August 1918, he is buried at Delville Wood Cemetery, Longueval
