Family history

Herbert Astle was born in 1889 at Nottingham he was the son of the late Trayton a lace maker and Frances Astle née Mills of Nottingham,

His father Trayton was born in 1857 at Shardlow, he died in 1918 aged 61 yrs, his mother Frances was born in 1856 at East Leake, they were married in 1877 at Radford they two further children, John Horace born 1877 died 1881, and Gertrude born 1885 died 1917.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 25 Union Cottages Nottingham Herbert 22 years is a goods porter with the Great Northern Railway.

Military history

Private Herbert Astle enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the South Nottinghamshire Hussars, transferred to (164381) Machine Gun Corps (Infantry)

He died on 29th July 1920 at Nottingham, he is buried at Nottingham General Cemetery
