Cyril Herbet Staniforth was born in 1897 at Nottingham he was the only son of Herbert lace maker and Nellie Staniforth née Hodson of 54 Lamartine Street St Ann's Nottingham.

His father Herbert was born in 1868 at Shepshed, his mother Rose Ellen Hodson was born in 1871 at Newark, they were married in 1895 at Nottingham.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 54 Lamartine Street, Nottingham, Herbert 43 yrs is a lace maker, he is living with his wife Nellie 40 yrs and their son Cyril Herbert 14 ys of age alos living with them is Hannah Staniforth 65 yrs a widow (Cyril's grandmother)

Military history

Private Cyril Herbert Staniforth enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 2/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 2nd December 1917 and is buried in Orival Wood Cemetery, Flesquieres (grave ref ll.C.37)
