Walter Peach was born in 1898 at Radford, Hyson Grren, he was the son of Charles and Elizabeth Peach. née Betts It was recorded on the 1911 census that his parents had been married for 15 years and had had four children of whom only two were still living, Bertie and Walter.
His father Charles was born in 1875 at Beeston, Nottingham, his mother Elizabeth Betts was born in 1872 at Basford, Nottingham, they were married in 1895 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district,
In 1901 Charles and Elizabeth together with Bertie (6) and Walter (4) were living at Malt Mill Lane, Nottingham. However, by 1911 the family was living at 17 Brassey Street Radford Nottingham. Charles 36 yrs a wood carver is living with his wife Elizabeth 39 yrs and their children, Bertie 14 yrs a frame doffer and also living with the family is a boarder, James Wathes (24), a miner.
Walter's father was variously employed as a stationary engine driver and a wood cutter on his own account (1911) while his mother seems to have worked at this stage in her married life, first as a hosiery mender and later as a charwoman (1911).
Private Walter Peach enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Keighley, Yorkshire, he served with the 10th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 12th October 1917, He had no known grave and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial. He qualified for the British War Medal and Victory Medal.
His mother was his sole legatee Elizabeth Peach of 12 Cambridge Street, Radford, Nottingham.
