Edward Daniel was the son of James Robert and Eliza Noseley (née Wilden).
His father James Robert was born in Leicestershire, the son of Daniel and Ann Noseley. Two of his siblings were born in Manchester but by 1871 the family was living on Bloomsgrove Street, Radford. His mother Eliza was born in Sneinton, Nottingham.
James and Eliza were married at Sneinton St Alban on 7 April 1890 and had eight children, one of whom died in infancy. Their seven surviving children were: Edward Daniel b. 1890 (JAS), James Robert birth registered 1894 (JFM), Alethea Ann b. December 1895 (reg. 1896 JFM), Joseph Henry b. January 1898, William b. 1903, Eliza b. 1900 and Ada b. 1905. The child who died in infancy was probably James b. 1891 (JAS) d. 1891 (OND).
In 1901, James, a stoker, Eliza and their five children, Edward, James, Alethea, Joseph and Eliza, were living at 32 Denison Street, Radford, with James' widowed father, Daniel. The couple's youngest child, Ada, was born four years later in 1905
The family was living at the same address in 1911. James snr. was now employed as a night watchman (iron foundry) and his three oldest children were also in work: James a labourer (Jacards maker), Edward a labourer (tobacco factory) and Alethea a packer (laundry. The four younger children were school age.
James snr. died in 1918. His two eldest sons, Edward Daniel and James Robert, served in the war and predeceased him; James was killed in 1916 and Edward died the following year.
James' senior's widow, Eliza, was still living at 32 Denison Street in 1921. Also in the household were their five surviving children, including a married daughter: Joseph, a labourer (cotton mills), Eliza a packer/sorter (Victoria Laundry), William a soldier (see 'Extra information'), Ada an errand girl and Alethea Barrow, a packer sorter (Victoria Laundry) and her husband Horace George Barrow, a storekeeper (Raleigh Cycles Co.). Alethea and Horace were married at Radford St Michael and All Angels in September 1920.
Eliza snr. died in July 1931 aged 65.
Alethea, a laundry manageress, and Horace, a cycle storekeeper, were living at 59 Gordon Road, Nottingham, in 1939 when the England & Wales Register was compiled. Alethea died in December 1977.
Joseph Henry married Harriet Grocock in June 1930 at Christ Church, Cinderhill, Nottingham. In 1939 Joseph and Harriett were living at 44 Napoleon Square; the record of one member of the household remains closed. Joseph died in January 1961.
William married Emma Raynor at New Radford parish church in March 1932. The couple together with their son Horace (b. 1932) were living at 32 Denison Street in 1939; William was a tobacco worker. He died in 1982.
Eliza married Horace Goss at Lenton parish church in August 1930. In 1939 Horace, a general labourer, and Eliza, a laundry shop assistant, were living at 42 Wilford Road, Nottingham along with Horace's widowed mother, Mary. Eliza died in November 1967.
Ada married William Smalley in 1931 and living at 2 Denison Street in 1939; the records of two other members of the household remain closed. Ada died in 1980.
Edward Daniel Noseley served with the 16th (Chatsworth Rifles) Battalion, Sherwood Foresters, Notts & Derby Regiment.
The Battalion was a service battalion, raised at Derby by the Duke of Devonshire and the Derbyshire Territorial Force Association on 16 April 1915. The Battalion served with the BEF France from 6 March 1916.
Edward died of pneumonia in a London military hospital on 4 November 1917 and was buried in Nottingham General Cemetery.
He qualified for the British War Medal and Victory Medal.
