Thomas Holmes was born in 1897 at Ollerton he was baptised on 21st November 1897 at St Giles Church, Ollerton and was the son of the late Thomas a carter and Sarah Holmes of 15 Garfield Road Radford Nottingham.
In the 1911 the family are living at 2 Bramcote Terrace, Nottingham and are shown as Sarah 47 yrs and a widow, she is living with her children James 18 yrs a lamp man Ernest 15 yrs an errand boy and Thomas 13 yrs.
Private Thomas Holmes, enlisted at Sunderland whilst residing at Radford, Nottingham, he served with the 11th Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment, he died of wounds on 6th October 1916 and is buried in Dernancourt Communal Cemetery Extension.
In memoriam published 6th October 1917 in the Nottingham Evening Post :-
“HOLMES. – In loving memory of Pte. Thomas Holmes, died of wounds, Oct. 6th, 1916. A day of remembrance sad to recall. – Mother, sister, and brothers.”
