William Wilkison (junior) was born in 1882 at Nottingham, he was the son of William Wilkinson (senior) a boot maker and Mary Elizabeth Wilkinson née Kidder of Newington Street, Nottingham.
William married Emma Louisa Hart Eccleshare (born 3rd October 1885) on 30th March 1907 at St Mathias Church, Sneinton, they lived at 70 Woodhouse Street, Carlton Road, Nottingham, they had 4 children, Mary Hannah born 3rd August 1908, Hilda born 10th November 1909, Florence May born 26th September 1912 and Edith May born 9th January 1914.
In the 1911 census the family are living at 3 Parkinson Street, Nottingham, William 28 yrs is a town carter he is living with his wife Emma Louisa 25 yrs and their children, Mary Hannah 2 yrs and Hilda 1 year of age.
Commencing 25th March 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 28 shillings and 9 pence a week.
Lance Corporal William Wilkinson enlisted on 2nd January 1915 at Nottingham giving his address as 3 Pakinson Street, Nottingham, he was a town carter his next of kin was his wife Emma Louisa Wilkinson of the same address.
He was posted to the Army service corps and embarked from Southampton on 28th August 1915 landing in Le Harve the following day. He was promoted to Lance Corporal on 3rd January 1916. He was returned to England on 14th August 1917 suffering from a gastric ulcer, admitted to the 3rd Scottish General Hospital at Stobhill Glasgow he died of a carcinoma of the colon on 21stSeptember 1917. He is buried at Nottingham General Cemetery snd his name is commemorated on the screen wall
