Family history

Frederick Herbert Talbot was the only son of Herbert and Charlotte Talbot (née Palmer).

His father Herbert was born in 1860 at Smethwick, Staffordshire, and his mother Charlotte Palmer in 1864 at Clapham, London. They were married in 1889 (reg. Marylebone) and had three children; Violet Kathrine b. 1891 (reg. Chelsea) and Frederic Herbert b. 1893 and Esmie Mary b. 1896 who were born in Nottingham.

The family was living at Hawthornden, Private Road, Sherwood, in 1911. In the home on the night of the census were Herbert (51), an electrical engineer, Charlotte (47) and their two daughters, Violet Kathrine (20) and Esmie Mary (15). Frederic Herbert (17) was a pupil at Bedford Grammar school.

Herbert and Charlotte were living at the same address when the CWGC record was compiled.

Military history

Second Lieutenant Frederic Herbert Talbot, who was commissioned on 4 November 1915, served with the 15th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment).

He served with the BEF France from 6 March 1915 and was killed in action on 20 July 1916 aged 23. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France (Pier and Face 10 C 10 D and 11 A).
