Horace Roadley

Horace Roadley was born in 1891 at Nottingham, he was the son of William Roadley a general labourer and Fanny [Frances] Savage who married at Nottingham on 7th August 1882 at Holy Trinity Church, Nottingham.

Their children included: William (b.1883/d.1918), Horace (b.1886), Harry (b.1891) and Ernest (b.1897). The Roadleys lived at: 12 Neville Street, Meadows [C.1901]; 135 Rupert Street, Meadows [C.1911]. William Roadley worked as a carter of flour [C.1901] and as a general labourer [C.1911]. Frances Roadley died, aged, 71, in Nottingham in 1931. Her husband, William, died in the Birmingham area, aged 80, in 1938.

In the latter part of 1911 Horace Roadley married Elizabeth May Steptoe in the Croydon registration district of Surrey. They had two children. Doris May born 2nd May 1913 . was born in the Croydon area and Horace born 22nd October 1915 in Nottingham.

An address given in the local newspaper after Guardsman Roadley’s death stated he was late of 244 Denman Street, Radford [n.e.p.3.11.1915].

Elizabeth May Roadley appears to have returned to the Croydon area and married Archie Steptoe in 1919. Elizabeth May Steptoe eventually died in the Croydon locality, aged 76, in 1968.
