Family history

Leonard George Steer was born i 1893 at Lenton, he was the son of George a steel turner for a cycle manufacturer and Violetta Mary Steer née Noon and the brother of Violetta Mary, Lilian Dorothy, John William Vernon, Edith Iris and Henry Leslie Steer of 23 Petersham Street Grove Road Lenton Nottingham.

His father George was born in 1873 at Nottingham, his mother Violetta Mary Noon was born in 1872 at Nottingham, they were married on 17th Septembe 1892 at Lenton Priory Church, they went on to have 6 children.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 23 Petersham Street, Grove Road, Lenton George Steer 38 yrs is a steel turner for a cycle manufacturer he is living with his wife Violetta Mary 38 yrs and their children, Leonard George 18 yrs a confectionary sugar boiler, Violetta Mary 16 yrs a blouse machinist, Lilian Dorothy 14 yrs a blouse ironer, John William Vernon 12 yrs a scholar, Edith Iris 5 yrs of age and Henry Leslie 2 yrs old.

He was engaged to Kate at the time of his death.

Military history

Rifleman Leonard George Steer enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 9th battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps, He was reported wounded and missing on 30 July 1915 but was not officially reported killed until May the following year.

He is buried in Poelcapelle British Cemetery 55.E.17/20
