Family history
George Glasby was born in 1899 in Askham and was the son of John Henry, a licensed victualler and Sarah Ann Glasby. John and Sarah had six children however two died in infancy.
In the 1911 census the family are living at East Markham , John and Sarah are living with their four children , Edith Mary , George henry 12 years of age and a scholar , Anne Alexander and John Henry.
Military history
Private George Glasby enlisted in Retford and served with the 2/6th battalion South Staffordshire Regiment. He was killed in action on the Western Front on 21st March 1918 . He has no known grave and his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, Pas De Calais, France
